DirectX in Windows XP

Hi guys,

I have had this wiered problem with direct x in windows xp ever since I installed it (windows that is).

One day while I was trying to run 3dmark, 3dmark would open, and said something about not having the neccesary files installed, something about directx. After that, it got some kind of illegal operation.

I noticed this would happen when ever I would run this program called EXPERtool, that came with my gainward card.

So I restored my system and decided never to use that program again.

Later on I checked the DXdiag program, and well, well check out the attached picture to see what the problem was.

So since never using expertool again, I havent had the problem, till I installed this game called alice, which Im guessing did something with DirectX, cause now 3dmark does the same thing (yet the game still runs).

Im gonna restore to some time yesturday just to fix it, but does anyone know what is happening?

Thank you,
Jay

Get hold of a gaming magazine disc from someone and try reinstalling Direct X 8.1 or you could download it. I haven't heard of this before though.

Also check out the Microsoft Knowledge Base, they might have something!

I tried downloading the Windows 2000 version of direct x to no avail. It didnt seem to have any affect (or effect, i forget).

There isn't much support for DirectX 8.1 for windows xp because it comes already installed, so they figure you wont have any problems with it (but I did )

Thanx,
Jay

I believe I found out the cause of the problem.

I think that the DXdiag program I was using was part of the Expertool thing. I uninstalled the program and the dxdiag program was gone also.

So I'm guessing that was it.

Thank you,
Jay

hehe I have grown to despise this expertool thing. It even lowers my benchmark when I have it open (why, I have no idea), but it does.
