This has haunted me for about 2 weeks now. I need a 32bit color display to play a new game (Elder Scrols III: Morrowind) however I only have a 24 bit resolution. I have an outdated video card (or "display adapter* as everyone likes to call it) a SIS 6326 AGP REV HO and I'm going to upgrade it in about a month. I've already updated it's drivers as well as the drivers to my moniter (MAG Inovision DX17F). Is there anyway to get the color display I need?
~I doubt it, but am hopeful. |

Hi Lapizer, welcome to the PC Mech forums!
Sorry, but the official specs at the SiS site list 24-bit as the max color depth. Quote:
I would recommend you upgrade your video card if you want to play able to play that game at a decent FPS. You can find a GeForce2 GTS-V 32MB card online for around $45 and it should handle it pretty well. Hope that helps. |

I've played that game on my system, it's a beast. I can't seem to find a 16bit mode either. Which is a shame cuz the game does need serious juice. I just started playing the begginning though, the areas i was exploring were wide open nature type scenes, rough on vid cards. that's at 1024*768 with med/high settings. I don't know much about your comp but you did mention an agp slot, an upgrade may be in your future. I would suggest a card w/64mb from my experience, albeit short, with the game.

A SiS video card... sorry, but I'd say it was "outdated" when you first got it
Anyways, DrZaius is right, get a Geforce 2 GTS-V card. There is probably a 2 or 3 dollar difference between the 32MB and 64MB. Good companies are Asus, Gainward, Leadtek, Visiontek and that's all I can think of right now.

I am in the same boat. I am trying to play it on my old Matrox Millennium G200. Fortunately, there are many good cards out there for dirt cheap. Hope it is a good game.
Any reviews? Respectfully, Demosthenes |

I have the card Dr. Z is refering to. It is an excellent card for a low price. Even though its only a Geforce2, I havent had any problems playing games. I play Jedi Knights 2 without any framerate problems
Demothenses, I dont have the game but in PCGamer, they gave it a 92%.
