onboard video

looking for an opinion for onboard graphics with gaming. looking at a msi board with geforce2 mx. is this about the best onboard video there is?its not for heavy gaming , its for my 11 year old son war craft 2 that type of thing, is this type of onbard video ok?

any board that uses the nvidia chipset would be fine for the gaming you are considering, boards with ATI 7500 onboard would prob be a bit faster, but not by much

its a start, you can always upgrade the card. I have the asus a7n266-e with the g2 in it, and you also get great 5.1 digital sound out of it. never had any problems with it. but if you wait a month or so the new nforce2 boards will be out. with better video in them.

NO matter what chipset is used for onboard graphics, it will never deliver the performance (both video and general computer) that a seperate video card will. The onboard video relies on the system memory for the video memeory and in most cases this is limited to a max of 8 or 16 megs. Not only is this making this amount of RAm unavailable to the system for data processing, but it is also on the low side for video performance.
With the prices of video cards ( a ATI OEM RADEON 7000 64MB SDR W/TV Out goes for 39 bucks) it makes no sense to use on-board video unless it is a business machine)
