GeForce4 not optimal

My friend has an Ecs P4VXMS motherboard with p4 1.5 ghz, a geforce4 ti4200 64mbDDR, and 512sdram on the motherboardr.
In Counter-Strike he gets 100fps when he first starts out and then it reduces constantly as characters move onto the screen. He had a geforce 2 before and this was about the same performance he was getting. He formatted after installing the geforce4. How can we get it to stay at an optimal framerate. Any suggestions apreciated.

Hi Netguess,

WHat resolution and color-depth does your friend run the game at? The more models appear on the screen and other effects (smoke grenades for example), the lower the FPS. In a game with a lot of players and action, I wouldn't expect the FPS to stay that high.

no, hes not a complete n00b. He knows all the basic of good gaming performance like closing programs and updating drivers. But this is a strange problem that we cant seem to fix.

That is odd. Have you checked the temps? If the CPU or GPU is overheating, it could cause the drastic slowdown.

CS is known to "top out" on fps no matter whta you throw at it.

Many folks have this problem. it is not a good game to gauge GeForce4ti power.

Oh yeah I should say I had a similar situation with Serious SamSE.

I was using a GeFOrce2 GTS, and switched to a GeForce4 ti4600, and frames only went up about 10-15. That game likes to use a lot of CPU power, instead of more GPU.

I use a P4 1.7, 512rdram, GeForce4 ti4600.
