Hi zzbudzz,
I'm not to familiar with HP systems, but I don't think you'll be able to upgrade the processor if the motherboard is proprietary. As for the video card, I would go with a GeForce3 Ti200 or a Radeon 8500 (both around $150), or if you want something cheaper, a Radeon 7500 ($65) with that system, and you should be able to play games nicely, and you can keep the card for a future system. Hope that helps. Last edited by DrZaius; 08-03-2002 at 08:54 PM. |

Hi zzbudzz,
Proprietary meaning that the motherboard was made to only support a certain range of processors to make upgrading difficult so it would force you to buy a whole new system. The Radeon 7000 is a good 2D card but not suited for gaming. If you want a good card that is much better than the TNT check out the Visiontek GeForce2 GTS-V card at NewEgg for around $45. I'm using it in a system and it works fine with even the latest games. Hope that helps. |

You can get a Radeon 7500 64MB DDR, the ATI OEM - Powered by ATI kind, from Newegg. I think they are charging something like $65 for that now.

You're right Furius92, the Radeon 7500 can be found for as low as $65 at NewEgg. I edited it in my original post, I was thinking of the Radeon 8500LE which is around $100. Both are good cards, and either would be a big improvement over the TNT 8MB.

I second the Doc , Geforce 2, I dont think there's much point here in buying a high end card with direct x8 pixel shading support such as the geforce4 or the 8500 as his processor isnt going to make much of the features and there arent many games that actually feature it yet anyway. Although the 8500LE would be a great choise if you can upgrade ur processor aswell. I know it's more but it is worth saving for in the right system.

I agree on the gts-v, I have a few of those around here and they do perform suprisingly well in games.

If the HP is cramping your style, everybody here can help you build a new PC!
The newer cards draw a lot of power so it would be a good idea to have ugrade the power supply too. Vote for the Visiontek GeForce2 GTS-V. Good Luck,
