Games minimum requirements

Many games has minimum hardware/software requirements written on it such as Pentium 2 or better, 128mb ram, etc

I throw a game with such a requirement into a Pentium MMX200 machine to see what happens and it works well !

Does other people has the same experience and also, how can one know if it works below the minimum stated (other than spending time installing/installing or maybe stress-out something ?)

You can't - unless you've read that someone else is running the game with a certain CPU, Ram, and video card. The only method is trial and error. But don't worry - you won't "stress anything out" apart from yourself by installing and uninstalling.

The "minimum" requirement for games is still quite low; however, to play games at higher resolutions with more detail and colour depth, in most cases, you will need the "recommended" requirements.

It also depends on the game engine. Some game engines are extremely efficient and can run on older systems at higher details levels and resolutions without a problem e.g. UT, Serious Sam. However, some engines are downright sloppy and resource hogs. Therefore you need a more powerful system and/or graphics card to make up for the developer's shortcomings.

the recommended requirements for the EA F1 series is about 300Mhz, but if you want to run the game with any little extra details you need more than about a P4 2.0 and 256MB RAM, and you still cant max the detail settings, i dont know where they got 300Mhz from, the must have just thought of a number and divided it by 4

I think it would be possible to run the EA F1 series on a 300Mhz system as long as you had a 32mb G Card. As far as I remember the EA F1 series is a pretty graphics intensive game not so much CPU.

I'd think your GPU would be the main focus. I remember trying to play Half-Life on my 166 with a 2mb PCI card. I had to shrink the window down...Playable, but...

What kinda graphics card are you runnin'?
