New video card, old machine
Would a GeForce 3 Ti card make a big difference in my old P3 450 100mhz fsb machine. I currently have a TNT M64 32mb card. Realizing that this is my only upgrade option at this time. My MOHAA runs at a unplayable snails pace. Again, this is the only upgrade available (affordable) to me at this time so don't say I need a new computer! Thanks in advance.

Hi sfd0124,
You'd definitely see an improvement, but the processor would be a real bottleneck for the video card and it won't be used to its full potential. If you have an option, check out the GeForce2 GTS-V, it's only $45 at NewEgg and would be a perfect upgrade for that system. |

Also checkout the ATI OEM RADEON 7000 64MB DDR AGP TV OUT BULK for $43.00 on newegg. It has a little more performance than the GFORCE2, And I know it will play MOHAA fairly well

Those are both great cards; the GF3 can be a power sponge as well.

I personally would not recommend the Radeon 7000/VE for gaming because of its limited memory bus and lack of hardware T&L compared to the Radeon 7200.

The Radeon will play most games quite well. I personally have a Radeon 32MB All-In-Wonder and MOHAA Plays extremely well and clear, as do Quake and Nascar 2001. Granted it will not give the same performance as a GFORCE 4, but in the 40 buck range, I would rather have 64MB of DDR than 32MB on a GF2.

Either way, both cards will be an improvement over the TNT2 M64.

DrZaius, don't get me wrong, not trying to start anything. I just feel that with the age of the system, more Vid RAM will give more of an improvment. Now if he were going 128MB and wanted to spend the money, then GFORCE for gaming is the way at this time.

mw,
I agree, the Radeon 7000 you suggested would be a good option since it's comes with 64MB DDR as you pointed out. The previous Radeon VE cards (which the 7000 is based on) only had 32MB SDR and lacked features that caused it to perform very poorly in games. sfd0124, If you could save $25 more, take a look at the Radeon 7500 as well. |

Thanks much for all the replys. I do believe I'll go for the Radeon for $43. Can't imagine doing better than that.
Thanks again all. |
