Planning on building a new system, I was just wondering how much of an improvent will investing on a good sound card be over just regular on-board sound?... If buying a SC, i'd probably be looking at a regular no 4-channel spkr stuff. Thanks!

It doesn't sound like you really desire quality sound. If that's the case, use the on-board stuff.
If you game or listen to music, you'll see a big difference in sound quality. I'd recommend the Turtle Beach-Santa Cruz. Newegg has it for $59.00: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ry=1431&DEPA=1 |

Generally speaking any medium priced sound card (30 to 35 bucks) will provide better sound and performance than the onboard sound will

If its for you and you like to play games and listen to music I say go with Santa Cruz I have it on my Dell system and sound quality is very, very good and I would also go with a good speaker system as well. I currently use Altec Lansing ADA885 4 speaker system with super woofer this system is good quality and sounds like the more expensive model put was under $300.

I beleive so when I go to santa cruz control panel it supports 4 and 6 speaker setup sounds like surround to me. Like I said the sound quality of the sound card and speakers is out of this world.
Best of luck |

Yes it supports 5 speaker surround. I only have a 4.1 set of speakers with my TBSC, but I love it.

Sound Blaster Live! cards sell for $30 OEM including shipping. The older ones are 4.1, but the newer 5.1 cards are only $5 more. See pricewatch.com and click sound cards then click live.
