Wife went out last night and brought me this video card and all I can say is... ummm.... damn. This thing works faster than a one armed wallpaper hanger. Crisp clear graphics, UT runs flawlessly, heck everything about this card is awesome!

Dammit, if only I could afford that card...
While we're on it Tiretool, what are your opinions on the Asus 6800V Geforce 256's? I found a great deal on em, and am looking hard at them for my new Duron box. Ya gotta love a manufacturer who gives you an OC utility WITH the video card, eh? All the hardware sites seem to prefer Elsa, but the price on this one from this reseller is great. Also, do ya think the 64 meg variety would be worth the extra 100 bucks for raw speed? Xayd [Edited by Xayd on 09-25-2000 at 05:35 PM] |

The V6800 is a good card as long as you get the DDR version. The difference between the chip's performance with SDR memory and DDR memory is just awesome. There is almost no comparison. It's almost like comparing a TNT 2 Ultra to a GeForce 2. Sure the GeForce (1) is awesome and all but without the memory bandwidth that DDR memory provides... it just sortof falls short.
I'm completely sold on Elsa's quality. They provide an excellent set of drivers (which include an overclocking utility) and the cards just plain work. There's no guessing whether it will be compatible. I'm on a Socket 7 mobo and have had no significant problems with either of my two Elsa cards. The Erazor X will get passed down to my boys to play with and the GTS will be my baby for a while. I'd have to say no about the 64 megs for an extra $100. If you get a 32 meg card with DDR memory, you'll be amazed! If you are stuck with only the SDR option.... then go with the 64 meg card. Keep us posted! I'm going to post some framerates with my K6-3 system to give some good ideas of what a low to mid level system will do with a GTS soon! |

Hey Tiretool
I Really wonder What's the real world difference between ss7 and TNT 2 and SS7 and Geforce2 GTS.Would I gain more by changing MB and CPU or by changing video card in 3D games. By The way How fast do yopu run k63?. I run my k62 at 504.. Cheers |

GF2 GTS is awesome. I love mine. I have the Hercules card, the blue on with the RAM heatsinks. I blows away every other card I have used. I just got a Voodoo5 5500 AGP for the other system, and the GTS kicks its a$$. Even in UT, which is a heavily Glide biased game. Good buy, Tiretool. I had a chance to play with the 64MB GF2 GTS, and I was not impressed by the speed increase over the 32MB model. The extra memory isn't the problem, it's the available bandwidth.
