ati rage fury maxx
This little darling of a vid card refuses to display in anything but 16bit or lower. It's supposedly a 32 bit card, but I can't get it to display 32 bit. I've tried installing the latest drivers, latest directx, checked bios settings and reinstalling the card. It's on a 1gig celeron system with a ecs p6 or something mother board. I know there is nothing wrong with the motherboard, because it ran a geforce 2 mx 200, geforce 3ti200 and ti500 and a 3dprophet 4500 all at 32 bit color and well at that. It' is on winders me.

Hi Werewolfdaddy
Looked around a little, learned some interesting things about that quite interesting card you've got there. It's powered by 2 Rage Pro 128 chips, not just one - so it's very picky about AGP. It's absolutely no higher than 2x. The motherboard has to be OK with 3.3v AGP cards: [quoting ATi support: _______ RAGE FURY MAXX not supported in motherboards requiring 1.5V AGP signaling Many newer AGP motherboards (such as those based on the Intel i845, i850, or i860 chipset) require a graphics card which supports 1.5V AGP signaling. The RAGE FURY MAXX is a 2X AGP graphics cards that is designed to operate in systems using 3.3V AGP signaling. While the RAGE 128 PRO chipset used by the RAGE FURY MAXX can support 1.5V AGP signaling, the bus load produced by the two ASICs on the graphics card make it extremely sensitive to signal timing issues at 1.5V. This can produce frequent hangs when attempting to run in 3D mode and may also cause other operational difficulties. For this reason the RAGE FURY MAXX is not recommended or supported for use in motherboards which require 1.5V AGP signaling. All other RAGE 128 PRO and RADEON based AGP graphics cards will operate at 1.5V AGP signaling. If you are uncertain whether your motherboard requires 1.5V AGP signaling please consult your motherboard manual." ___________ It also has some curious jumper settings, which if you're working with a board that has no manual might surprise you: http://www.atitech.ca/support/infobase/3550.html (Basically, jumper JU101=D Disabled; jumper JU201=E Enabled) Since you have a display, though, your jumpers are probably OK. And if your drivers came from other than Ati, here's the formal favorites for the Rage Fury Maxx for WinME: http://www.atitech.ca/support/produc...medrivers.html Since this card is kind of an anomaly all around, I'd stick with DirectX 7 if I could with it (that's the highest officially supported by the driver) Hope something in all this helps. I've always liked my Ati cards, nice quality image, and fast enough for what I do. . . . Gary |

Thank you. This answered some questions for me. I tried their sites, but didn't find that page.
