Nothing serious, simple ?

OK I've been looking at nVidia's site about the GeForce cards and their capabilities, and I am just stumped. The way the site talks about em' is like they're actually cards themselves, then I go search for the cards, and I keep getting other card names w/the GeForce as a chipset! Please explain!

Hi tails2250,

NVidia produces the graphic processors (chips) that are used on the video cards (made by various manufacturers). I did hear that they were thinking of producing their own line of video cards but don't know if they're going through with it.

Well I feel stupid now. Thanks Cricket.

Hey if it's just a chipset then what company's card do you think would work best with it? I'm running an ATI RagePro of some sort right now.

Hi tails2250,

Actually, ATI does make it's own video cards as well as graphic processors that are used on a small number of video cards made by other manufacturers.

I'm not a gamer and don't follow the video card market too closely, but I understand cards from Guillemot Hercules, Leadtek, Visiontek, MSI, ASUS and ABIT are all decent brands to consider. But wait for others to make recommendations since I'm really clueless when it comes to video cards.

Cricket is right, MSI, Asus, Gainward, Abit, LeadTek and VisionTek are all good manufacturers. ATI makes its own cards mostly, unless you buy a "Powered by ATI" card, then it is one of their various OEM manufacturers. I think most of them are made by Sapphire, which I guess is just as good as the retail ATI cards since a lot of people buy them.
