Problems with GF3 TI200

I could use some suggestions as to what this problem might be. I recently did a reformat and install of win98. After win setup is complete i load the newest VIA 4n1 drivers, then directx 8.1, then my vid card drivers. I do reboot after each. The problem I am having is, once I load the Detonator drivers for the vid card my system locks up. No bsod just locks up. I have tried old and new detonator drivers with the same outcome from each, system locks up after less than a minute, and frequently not completing loading of windows before it freezes. To confirm it being a detonator I reformatted and loaded all drivers except the detonators, I used the standard windows vga drivers and I had no problems with the system at all at this point. It ran fine for a few hour. So I load the detonator drivers again(they are the correct ones, for win9x). Same problem with the system lock ups. Until I decided to reformat and reinstall windows my system ran rock solid. Does anyone have any clue as to what could be causing this. I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks in advance, db System specs are below

One other thing, To try something new I partitioned my 40 gig hardrive, 4gigs for my OS and the remainder for everything else. Don't know if that would cause any problems. just thought I would mention it.

I feel via + 98/me is asking for just these types of problems. If you go with xp, or even 2k, and leave the 4n1s as they come on the xp/2k disk, you should have no lockups.
You can find more info at viahardware.

I was able to solve a video issue be going back on drivers. I'm always skeptical about the NEWEST drivers. It may be too late for Dx 8.0a but you can try earlier versions of 4in1.

Good luck,
