I was wondering how many of you currently use a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 rather than the 4600? Near the end of this month I plan on purchasing a Visiontek Xtasy G4 Ti4200, and hopefully begin building my long awaited system shortly thereafter.
It will be used for gaming and creating graphics, but also occassional work. Looking up prices on mwave, I noticed that the 4200 is approx. 150$ less than the 4600(both retail i believe). I hear that the 4200 is a "bargain buy" and that is similar to it's bigger brother, and maybe not that distinguishable when compared side by side. Is that true? Just needing some feedback on the 4200 mainly, and some other possible makers of the card that I should look into more. Thanks in advance. |

Hi Pants,
The 4200 and 4600 are based on the same basic GF4 chip, the main difference is the clock speed. The 4200 is the best "bang for the buck" nVidia card because it's performance is very good for a lot less than the top end card, and you can even overclock the 4200 to 4400 speeds for better performance. If you wait a few more weeks, the price on the 4600 will come down as well when the ATI Radeon 9700 is announced. Either way, the 4200 is a good card and Visiontek is one of the better brands. Also look at Abit, MSI, and Gainward. Hope that helps. |
