Radeon9700 due out today, reviews are out!
If anyone is wondering,
Tom's hardware has a great article. I wish ATI would have sent us one ![]() Now the question, do I go and buy a Radeon 9700 today, or wait for Nvidia's answer "pre" Xmas? I don't know if I can wait that long. What is Nvidia thinking? Don't they know UT2K3 is due out in a month?

all the other sites i shop from haven't added it to their inventory yet. try physical locations such as best buy in a few days to see if they have it in stock yet |

The ATI 9700 is an 8X AGP video card. So you probably will want a new motherboard too!

HAL, what does 568CDN come out to in US$.
And at upgradesource.com, all you can do is pre order, it does not say its in stock. Unless I read wrong.

That's my cost which would be about $355USD, so $399 retail is probably in the right ballpark.

I am going to buy this card, but would you wait till newegg, or mwave($362, out of stock) has it in stock? Or would you try and find the card from smaller dealers?

Actually, I am waiting for Nvidia's new core. Then I will create my new build, hopefully with the help of this fine forum.

It's at newegg by 8/31....
According to specs you will need Me, 2000 or XP to run it.
It's priced at $389.00 .

I might start a new thread about this, but for now this thread will do.
At mwave the 9700 is $373 shipped, at newegg its $389 just for the card. Both say it is the Retail box version. Could this be a misprint by one of the companies. Or is the mwave bargain just a great deal? |

So would you have to get a new motherboard to take full advantage of this video card?? AGP 8x??

To get the full effect of the 9700s capability you would need a mobo that supports AGP 3.0 or 8x. The only one I know of is the new Soyo Dragon Ultra with the SiS648 chipset.
Of course, even if your motherboard only has 4x, it is still an incredibly powerful card.

The AGP 8x will increase the bandwith of the AGP bus to over 2GB/sec. However, even at AGP 4x, it is never used to its peak power. The AGP bus is not the bottleneck for video cards, and won't be for at least many years, if ever. I'd be suprprised if you got noticebly better scores in an AGP 8x board compared to an AGP 4x board.

Why's that wolfie? You'll be paying the full $399 US at Best Buy, when you can get it over a week earlier from MWave, with overnight shipping for less money.
