Need a PC for Counter-Strike
what would be the cheapest computer i could build that would run counter strike. i only have a 56k modem so would a faster CPU of Gfx card help my ping when im playing?

No. The performance of the internet connection is determined by the modem, not the CPU or graphics card.
Only thing that you can pay attention to is to get a hardware modem, not a winmodem, because a winmodem has no controller chip and uses CPU power. RJ

 A good modem would be a USR external or a 2977 internal which is a true hardware modem.

The supra express by diamond is faster than the usr. Both pci hardmodems. If you can find one, get it.

I only have a 16 MB video card and CS works fine. Your ping will be around 100 if you use broadband internet.

No, a Supra Express hardmodem is either external serial or ISA. All PCI Supras are winmodems.

I have a 16 meg SIS video card on my main PC and counter strike works great. I also have 8MB intergrated graphics on my other PC and counter strike works OK on it.

however, if your graphics card is extremely slow and you have say a cable modem, you still may experience major lag even tho the res is low enough. i know from experience. so spring for the faster computer as well as a good internet connection! :P
