Another refresh rate question

I just got a Planar 19" LCD. The specs say it's capable of 75 Hz at 1280x1024 (its max resolution), but they didn't say if that was in analog or digital mode. I'm using it through a DVI connector, and I only have 60 Hz available ... no other choices.

I have an ATI AIW Radeon with the latest drivers installed (ver. 6118).

Planar has no drivers on its web site and none were included; the monitor is using the MS XP Plug and Play drivers (ver. 5.1.2001.0).

Any ideas on if this maximum refresh rate discrepency is due to the video card, monitor, drivers, or a combination of the three?

Thanx

Just wanted to add ... my ATI control panel has a checkbox to NOT display refresh rates incompatible with my monitor. When I uncheck this I can see all possible refresh rates, but it warns that there could be hardware damage consequences if I choose a non-supported rate.

I believe that if you are using the LCD with the DVI interface then there is no reason to worry about refresh rates. I have a digital only LCD and was told they don't really refresh as such like CRT monitors do because most LCD's run on direct current. I assume yours has the DC adapter and the small power wire going into the display. I asked the same question on this forum a couple of years ago when I got my LCD and the answer was there is no reason to set the refresh rate higher than 60hz. Resolution is another matter. LCD's are capable of various screen size resolutions....mine now being an older model can display sizes from 800X600 to 1024X768 although it appears to me a bit blurry and the highest resolution for some reason. I'll defer to others more technically oriented in the monitor area, but since LCD's don't really refresh, that is probably why you can't change the rate from 60hz.

I can buy that. It's just curious that I didn't see the info anywhere in the documentation. Also, the Quick Start Guide was totally based on an analog connection ... the LCD controls have unique menus based on the connection type. I was getting worried until I found the section on digital connections.

The picture quality is good. It will take a little getting used to.

Get the program Rage3D Tweak and it will take care of it for you.
