Question Which card in pci slot #1?

On my Epox 8K- TA3, and Winders 2K, and IE5.5 machine (T-bird 1.4) I an slowley running out of pci card slots, and might need to use slot #1 (first one below the AGP slot.
I have heard that the lesser of the evils, is the NIC card to use in this slot . Do ya'all have an opinion on this?
Possibly, I could remove the slot cooler fan because I've recently upgraded to a G4- ti4200 Video card with it's own cooling fan.

I have besides the NIC card, a SB live card, and a Promise card.
The reason I might need more space, is because I'll be installing a Pinnacle studios DC10+ capture card soon, AND, a Firewire card.

So I'm jus wondering , if needed, which card would cause the least headaches in slot #1.

Off to work now. See's ya'all this evening, and Thanks a million!!

The only card I will install in Slot one is an IDE controller, but I would guess that you could install a second parallel port or some other card like that. About the only thing you can do is just play around with the cards to see which one will not cause a problem. Yesterday I got a call on a computer I recently built that was having video problems (Multiple screens of Colored Lines on the monitor) and running XP Pro. I had had no problems with it during the build and the loading, but on the phone this sounded like a hardware conflict. Sure enough when I got there the device manage showed that the modem in slot 6 had a problem. Pulled the modem and re-booted and everything was fine. And since the person now had a T1, I did not need to re-install the modem.

Thank you very much Morris!! Sounds like it'll be an experiment to me. I will (if needed) move the Promise card to slot #1, and see how she goes.
Thanks again!!!!

No, do not move the Promise card to slot 1 - this will cause all kinds of hassles. Put your slot fan in it if you must.

What Problems?? Been running IDE Controllers in PCI slot 1 for several computers over the past three years with no problems noticed. The computer I am typing this on has controllers in Slot 1 and 2, no problems. What am I missing?

Morris,
At least in MY case, GLC is "right on the money". I got all kinds of boot errors and such, so's I put the promise card back where it was, and just removed the slot fan and put the video capture card in it's place.( slot #4). All is well!!!
Thanks again fellers!!
