I stand corrected then. I thought 3dfx just jumped from Voodoo3 right to the 5000 series.

Yeah, it wasn't even as fast as a GF2MX though so it's pretty useless.

I read about the VooDoo5 6000. It was canceled because 3Dfx went out of business. It was the first card to sport 128megs of SDRAM. It had four chips, all running at 166mhz, cooled by 4 fans. It looked pretty cool but it benchmarked at only 1678 in 3DMark2001.

How does that Voodoo perform WWD? Cool new avatar btw.

All I know is I'm one of the few that had the honor of purchasing a Voodoo 5 and I was completely happy with my purchase. My PC video responce couldn't be better (at that point in time). The thing is that they are out of business, you are better off buying the top of the line today.

I would not recommend it for an upgrade unless he is playing Glide games. You are much better off with something Nvidia or ATI.

What i meant was he was looking for upgrade to Geforce 3 series but he was unsure that his MOBO has an AGP to support it.......Thats why he's uncertain and call for help.Instead I head over to this great forum to search for answers.....

If he does have an AGP slot, get him an ATI Radeon 7500 and he'll be set for gaming for a while and it's pretty cheap. If he only has PCI slots, PNY has a GF4 PCI card as well. However, it might not be worth upgrading that high on a mobo with no AGP slot, save the pennies for a bigger upgrade.

AFAIK GF3 is way better that the Radeon 7500, but I think it is more expensive.

Am I right, DrZ? Is dat why you didn't recommend a GF3?

Correct, the GF3 is faster than the Radeon 7500, but the Radeon is a better value for an intermediate upgrade.

Does the 7500 card have what they call "Truform"rendering(I'm not sure but I guess this is what they call.Is it just like nvidia's nFINITE FX engine?I'm quite a bit confused here,DrZ~!~!~~

If I remember correctly, the Radeon 7500 doesn't have TRUFORM but the Radeon 8500 does.
