I've researched this pretty well, and if you want the best you gotta get an SB Live! That's been the case for some time now, and I haven't heard about any new standard coming out. Sound cards don't experience the same life cycle as video cards.

Mine is the second vote for the SB Live family of cards. They're compatible with everything and they make anything sound great!

I highly suggest anything from Cambridge Soundworks in terms of speakers. You could get the 4-point digital DT2000, or if you have a dvd player, the DT2500 Desktop Theater 5.1 for complete surround sound. They kick ass! I also agree with the SBLive family.

Agreed on the SB Live family. Just got an SB Live x-Gamer and it sounds great. Gonna go get some more speakers now, only got4 with a sub at the moment.

The best speakers are the Klipsch ProMedia v.2 - 400, geez are they loud and clear with a SB Live. Pretty pricey though

I agree that klipsch are the best speakers, but I think that the DTT2500 is best bang for the buck. I don't think you need to feel the beats when playing games.

I orginally had the four point surround speakers from Cambridge, but I exchanged them for the 5.1 digital speaker system. Speakers are one of those things on the computer that you can keep from system to system (like a monitor) so your best bet is to get the best speakers that are on the market. I suggest getting a 5 point digital surround system rather than 4, even though I can't think of any games that use a five speaker system. I believe it's only a year or so until you start to see game makers jump to that standard.
