Question everquest and compuserve

I was hoping someone could help, I am trying to help friend , he is using compuserve 7.0 also tried compuserve 2000. His problem is he can get on line, surf, email and everything is fine. When he logs on to his everquest game which he has ran on this machine with compuserve for a year with no problems, he gets disconnected from the game after a very brief period (1- 5 minutes). He has contacted everquest and they are telling him servers are fine and there is a prob. with compuserve. Can't figure this out, I know he can't use DUN because of compuserves lovely AOL adapter, but there has to be a way to cure this. He went as far as doing a rebuild and still no luck. Running W/98 SE, 512 mb ram, 64 mb graphics, HP 450mhz (I believe), dial in modem. Any help would be appreciated! Compuserve is dumb to the question,**@%#%!!!!
Thanks

Send a message via AIM to Alaron
Have you checked for any updates/patches for Everquest. Many times games will have trouble in multiplayer without an update.

Hate to say it, but ditch the proprietary ISP and get one that uses standard DUN connections.

Thanks, that has been my suggestion to him for quite some time. Don't know why some people want to pay for someone to lag their pc time, playing the packet game. Maybe if I show him your post he will finally be convinced. I just thought someone here would know how to set up a DUN type connection that plays well with AOL adapter........yuk!! Thanks!

There is probably a way to set it up, but since I belong to the I-hate-AOL club, I can't help you. If he is staying dial-up, one choice would be ATT Worldnet. Don't know where you're located, but they are pretty widely available. He can get a better connection AND save about $6 a month. I was using ATT before I moved to Cable in June.

The only major national "standard DUN" ISP left that doesn't require you to load their proprietary software is Earthlink. Everquest is getting harder and harder to play without broadband anyway.
