Question Vid cards and DirectX

What is this "full support for DirectX 9" that some cards claim so loud?

I've heard that only newer cards with the newer graphics chips have it.

Does it mean that my current GF3 I recently bought will be junk within 3 months? Or will there be driver updates which will add the support for DX 9 to my VC?

I'm concerned. This card costed me dearly.

I think that just means there may be some new features released in DX9 that only these newest cards will be able to utilize.

Your GF3 will be able to work with DX9, but may not be able to utilize all the new features. I have had many nVidia GF cards and have never had a problem using new versions of DX. In fact, this computer I am using now has a GeForce 256 (GF1 if you will) that started with DX6, upgraded to DX7, DX8, and now DX8.1 that came with windows XP.

Isn't it something like "hardware supported" features for DX9. Like with the pixel and vertex shaders of DX8 are hardware supported by the ATi 8500 and Nvidia GF4. I thought either the card or something could run the stuff still, but it chews up extra cycles and such, like it's software supported. Anyone elaborate on this?

DX9 games are a long ways off, so your card will definitely not be junk in 3 months. The good DX8 titles, that actually use most of the features, are finally going to be hitting the shelves in the quantity that us DX8 card owners, like yourself, desire.

That is kinda relieving.

Then my VC won't be junk until Doom III hits the shelves.
