Very frustrated, would appreciate any advice (not involving explosives or heavy machinery). I'm new to the forums and hope this is the appropriate place to post my dilema.
I'm not sure what type of video capture card I have, or how to determine what it is - purchased it through internet auction 1-2 yrs ago. Came with Ulead video capture software. My problem is whenever I attempt to open the video capture program (or any of the programs associated with the software) the computer reboots. This also happens if I try to open Windows Movie Maker. I have used the video capture software successfully several times a while back. I believe when I used it I had a Viper 550 vid card, and now I have a Voodoo 5500 (AGP). I don't have any other available vid cards to check my hypothesis. I'm using Windows ME, puter is 1 ghz, 512 ram. Not sure what else to provide other than the make of video capture card if I could figure that out. Please help!! Route66_2K |

Sounds like you have a resource conflict. Try the card in a different slot if possible.

Take a look through device manager - it should tell you in there what the capture card is. This may be helpful.

Appreciate your replies. Have checked Device Manager, only information obtained: H.32xPCI VideoCad Ltd. Release 1.38 using IRQ 05 and Memory Range E9001000 to E9001FFF, No conflicts reported.
I tried moving the capture card to 3 different PCI slots and got the same result with both Ulead software and Windows Movie Maker - puter reboots. Getting higher into my ignorance range. Checked Resources and there are anywhere from 3 - 5 devices using IRQ 05. I don't see any free IRQ's - see several supporting multiple devices. Would this be my problem? Any way of determining if an IRQ can be diverted/freed up to use with this capture card? Thank you for your suggestions in advance Route66_2K |

Tried capture card in 4th available slot - same result, though now it is using IRQ 10 (with 2 other devices). Feel much confused because when I did have this card working I had more devices in my computer. Not sure how to resolve the issue.

Update 3
http://www2.driverguide.com/uploads/uploads7a/5832.html found this and realize this is a common problem. Most all say I need to not let this card share an IRQ. Wish any help to allow me to accomplish this. Doesn't appear to be any new drivers for this card.

I've copied the list of IRQ's used by device from Device Manager to provide as much information as possible. It looks like this:
00 System timer 01 Standard 101/102 - key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard 02 Programmable interrupt controller 03 Communications Port (Com 2) 04 Communications Port (Com 1) 05 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering 05 VIA AC'97 Audio controller (WDM) 06 Standard Floppy Disk Controller 07 Printer Port (LPT 1) 08 System CMOS/real time clock 09 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering 09 VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller 09 VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller 10 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering 10 H.32x PCI 10 3dfx Voodoo Series 11 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering 11 Linksys LNE100TX(v5) Fast Ethernet Adapter 11 SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus 12 PS/2 Compatible mouse port 13 Numeric data processor 14 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller 14 Primary IDE Controller (dual fifo) 15 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller 15 Secondary IDE Controller (dual fifo) I have 2 IDE hdd's connected to IDE 1 and my CD-rom and CDRW connected to IDE 2. Only 2 PCI slots used - Ethernet card and video capture card - 3 free slots. Voodoo 5500 AGP vid card. Scanner and Printer connected to 2 usb ports. PS/2 mouse and keyboard. I've been researching freeing up computer resources though not sure best possible way to free up an IRQ to allow the H.32xPCI to have a non shared IRQ. Please advise Route66_2K |

Went into CMOS and disabled the serial ports. This opened up IRQ's 4 and 9. Now though I'm stumped as I try to change the IRQ of the capture card I get the message "This resource setting cannot be modified." I get the same message if I try to change one of the devices thats sharing the IRQ with the capture card. Setting based on Basic Configuration 0000 (only option available). It will allow me to change the memory range though I don't have a clue what to do with that.
Still stumped Route66_2K |

ACPI is assigning the IRQ's, that's why you can't change them. Try changing "Plug and Play OS" in the BIOS to "NO" and keep shuffling slots till you get what you need.

Some mobo's allow you to assign or reserve an IRQ for a particular PCI slot. That means only the card in that slot will have that IRQ.
Go into your BIOS and see if you have such an option and then allocate one of your IRQs to the PCI slot where you have the card. HTH |
