Cool Oldies you still have fun playing

After chatting with pstj in the Heretic II thread, I found myself wondering if you still play old games and what are those you have more fun with.

I still play Duke Nukem 3D, Heroes of Might and Magic II and III and *these are the best* Crusader: No Remorse and Crusader: No Regret (even though I'm stuck on mission 8 and can't get out. Any tips?).

What about you, fellow members?

Well, I think I'm gonna join this one too

I still have lots of fun playing Heretic II... I don't know why, but this game always seemed so special... I still play it from times to times...

I still play Lords of the Realm II. That game is so simple by today's standards, but I still love it. Ahhh. they joy of destroying your opponent's castle ...

And then there is the still much loved Starcraft... I think it still speaks for itself...

And... Freespace... another game with a great story... ok not an oldie that much, but still.

Okay, and of course, Duke Nukem 3D... now that was something new when it came out! (actually, I did not play it until 2 or 3 years later...)

Oh, and also an honourable mention... Star Trek 25th Anniversary... I miss these old games...

And Heroes of Might and Magic... and... argh, there are sooooooo many....

I once played a demo of Lords of the Realm II and love the game. A shame I was never able to get it.

Hey Nuke, what time is it over there? Are we in the same Time Zone or what?

Lords of the Realm 2 was a really great game... I *think* it is still possible to find it in a special pack including Lords of the Realm 1 and an expansion pack to Lords 2 (that expansion pack is just great... you get several new castle designs... only for siege thought. No additional campaign - but I'm off-topic... ). You might be able to find it at 10 bucks or so. Still quite fun to play...

(and are we the two only ones interested in older games? )

lil Jimmie, I don't remember DTR... a racing game? Can't say I played lots of these... so I don't think I ever played that one...

(there was a great motocross game on original Nintendo though... can't remeber the name...)

I ain't a fan of racing games myself, but I grew too fond of Lotus, a racing game kinda simplistic but it hooked me for hours.

I also remember playing a 16 color F1 racing game, but I cannot remember its name.

Then I upgraded to the original NFS.

I still load up quake sometime to play it in coop with my mates - why newer fps dont include a coop option is beyond me and annoys the hell out of me!

Also Rally Masters is good for a quick race.

Im still obsessed with Tetris, now playing it on my graphing calculator rather then my Gameboy.

PC-wise, I play the original Unreal Tournament, even though I got it only 3 months ago so its not really "old" to me. I picked it up cheap at Compusa, and I was instantly hooked. If Im on my computer, and Im not logged into the Mech, Im playing some CTF.

My girlfriend just started playing Warcraft 2 so I find myself helping her play that every so often.

My all time favorite goes to X-Wing. I have not played it recently. I tried it a couple years back and let it stand that memory is a better judge than perception. I really do not care for XvT, but would really like it if they re-released the original X-Wing and Tie Fighter under that, or preferably newer, engine. I doubt that will ever happen.

Still, my hat goes off to XWing, as it made an unparalleled leap in flight simulation in its time.

Respectfully,

Demosthenes

I always liked the fighting games, mainly the Mortal Kombat series. Tried to install MK2 on my Win95 machine the other day though and it said "Cannot detect CD drive". Don't know whats up wit dat. Guess I'll just have to wait for the new Mortal Kombat that's coming out on the Playstation2 before I can enjoy it again. I've got Mk3 but it sucks. If you beat like 3 opponents in a row, then the fourth one just totally kicks your butt.

I didn't really care for X-wing. I think that the cockpit takes up too much screen space so that the viewport was really small.

The whole Descent series. D1 came out in '95. It was the game that made people get vertigo. 360 degrees of freedom. This was the game that revolutionized fps flight sims.

I still play a few old games on my super Nintendo Emulator. Some times it surprises me that I can still play games like the old magaman, teenage mutant ninja turtles and super mario brothers with all the 3D games on my computer. I know it's sad but you can't beat the oldies sometimes. Besides them I still play starcraft on and off.
