GeForce3 Ti -vs- GeForce 4 Ti
I was just wanting to know if there is a substantial difference in these two cards. Building a new system for a friend who plays Everquest. I find a huge difference in price but not sure what the added benefit would be to him. Also is Jaton an alright brand for the Geforce4? Thanks for all replies!!

Here are all the benchmarks from TomsHardware. If money is a concern and Everquest is the only thing being done, GeForce3 should suffice, though I have no notion of the requirements of EQ. Otherwise, the GeForce4 Ti4200 could probably be overclocked pretty well to 4400 or 4600 specs. At least, that is what I am putting my money on. I know nothing about the brands, but Jaton seems like it would be a less "well known" brand. Which Ti cards are you looking at? There is the Ti200, 500, 4200, 4400, 4600. The spread will look wild from 200 to 4600, but not too bad from 500 to 4200. Respectfully, Demosthenes Last edited by Demosthenes; 10-07-2002 at 10:40 AM. |

I'm happy with my Gainward card. They seem to be middle-of-the-road in pricing. My Geforce 3 Ti runs UT 2003, FS 2002 and Wolfenstein quite well. I'm not sure how much more demanding Everquest is. The Gainward "Golden Sample" cards also come with some nifty overclocking software.

Gainward 4200 for the brand and model would be my preference if there's a limited budget, even the 64 MB version, cuz its RAM is faster than the 128 and it does overclock quite well, with fps nearing the g4 4600 on average resolutions.
Here's something more for the left-brained people (is that right? the visual vc numerical) to compare performance: Last edited by TimPoet; 10-08-2002 at 01:04 AM. |

As I indicated in your other thread - the 64mb 4200 is the best value out there, and I would not even look twice at a Jaton. I don't see a "huge" difference in price between it and a GF3. Have you looked at Newegg?

I believe that th GF4's will be able to run the new features of DX9- however, given that DX9 isn't even out yet and DX9 games are even further away- this may not be that much of an advantage at this time.

Thanks for all your help on this build, I hope it goes well, I didn't give the Jaton a 2nd look, thanks glc. I did go with the GeForce4 Ti4200 128mb, Aopen brand, I am hoping that was a better choice, he just wouldn't bite the extra bucks on Gainward though I didn't see that big of a $ difference, oh well it's his game! Thanks for all replies, you all are the best!!!!

He will be very happy with that card, it will blow away any GF3 out there. AOpen makes decent quality components.
When my EQ freak customer upgraded his Dell P3-1000 from a tweaked, overclocked, and unlocked Radeon LE to a GF4 4400, the difference in the game was night and day. We ran a 3D Mark 2001 on it and got somewhere around 6000 - the Radeon was around 2500. Then we stripped the Dell and went to a 2.53 P4 and the difference in the game was once again night and day - and the 3D Mark broke 10K. |

I don't think so - unless you plan on playing games that can use more than 64mb to its advantage. The 64mb memory is actually a bit faster than the 128.

Well just an update on the card. GLC knows the business, my friend freaked after install of this card. Grafics too awesome to even describe, night and day as glc said is a bullseye. Just pure clean graphics, nothing choppy about this card. You can actually see the hair standing up on these monsters. Thanks for the advice!!!!
