It depends on what game you are running really. The Nvidia drivers (you really should download the latest Detonator's from Nvidia's site and NOT use the packaged drivers), don't yet have all the features of the card unlocked for you to mess with. Therefore I suggest getting a GeForce card "tweaker", namely RivaTuner, because it is the best. ( www.guru3d.com ). With this you can adjust for certain games and thier requirements and different API's. For instance, the original UT might look funny if you use it's detail textures. If you open RivaTuner and uncheck the "W-Buffer" then everything will look perfect. Also, that game needs Table Fog emulation enabled, which can be accomplished in RivaTuner as well. Those particular settings are in the Direct3D section of RivaTuner, and if you run it in OpenGl you will have a different set of options to tweak. As for you desktop settings, you should have more power with that card than your monitor might support, so just make sure to have only those refresh rates supported by your monitor as choices, then you won't risk damaging it. I run in 32-bit color (as well as games) and use 1280x1024 res. with a 75 hertz vertical refresh rate. That is the highest refresh rate my monitor will handle at 1280x1024x32. If I let let it show all refresh rates and picked a higher one, I could damage my VERY EXPENSIVE monitor.... not worth it.
You will learn a lot about your card the more you use it. Geez I hope my English held up okay in this post. if you have more questions or my post didn't help just let it be known here.

RivaTuner will let you overclock just as well. It's an all in one thing. Install the new drivers from Nvidia, then unzip RivaTuner. You don't even have to install it, just run it.
It also has the much needed 60 hertz refresh rate fix for WindowsXP, but I hear SP1 fixed that. I wouldn't know because I already had the fix on when I installed SP1 for XP. |
