there ARE multiplay buttom mice but not specifically for gaming
optical two buttom mouse with a wheel is good enough to frag.

If you're talking for CS, I know a guy that used to be #1 in the US for CS. He showed me how to "properly" set up my mouse. Left click is fire, right click is jump and clicking the wheel is jump. Great setup for using the AWP. You can just move, zoom in and shoot faster.

I think the two most important features to have in a "gaming mouse" is an optical read and a wheel. I have a 5 button mouse, but I rarely use the side buttons.

There is a mouse specifically for gaming but I can't think of its name. I remember the ball was in the rear and the reviewers said it took awhile to get used to- but once you got used to it, the mouse was great. Anyone remember what this mouse was called?
I remember now- it was the Boomslang; see: http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardwa...ang2000review/ Last edited by Prew; 10-22-2002 at 06:34 PM. |

It's hard to go wrong with a Logitech Dual Optical. I've not had a problem with mine yet.

I just got an Intellimouse Explorer. I use the side buttons in Day of Defeat to shout "Grenade!" and to ask for back up. It's my first optical mouse so I don't know if just a regular optical with out the side buttons matter for games.

I've got a MS Intellimouse explorer. Nice mouse. I set up the two side buttons for different things in games. Pretty handy. It's comfortable too. Not for a lefty tho.

The Intellimouse optical is probably the best out right now, as it's got the highest sampling rate. But be sure that it's v2.0, cause the previous versions had a lower sampling rate.

I've read that cordless mice have a bottleneck in the cordless data transfer device, so they're not recommended as gaming mice.
BTW, Intellimouse is in version 3.0 now. Oh and also BTW, to get the best sampling rate from a mouse, you have to run it on the USB plug, rather than the PS/2. The default sampling rate in the PS/2 device is capped in windows. Not sure if there's a way to increase it. |

The Boomslag's problems were due to the point it was released. It came out right as optical mice debuted. And when it comes to optical or traditional, most people are going to chose optical. There are a few die-hard traditional fans that refuse to make the switch, but not enough to keep them from bankruptcy.
