Hi wireant,

The 9700 is the current king of the hill, but is not in the same class as the GF 4. The GF 5 should be out soon, an those are the two that are more comparable.

The GF 4 is a DX8 card, the 9700 is a DX 9 card, and the GF 5 should be a GF 5 card also.

9700 if you like watching dvd's but if you are in hard core gaming i would go with the g4 4400 or 4600 "if you want tv out".

The folks on rage3D seem to have gotten alot of the bugs cleared but this card has been a reminder about not being on the cutting edge.
My reason for watching has been waiting for the 9500pro, if they get the high-end problems solved then the 9500pro card should work.
ATI has patched the problems, the card, which works much better, is good; and one more set of catalyst drivers should do the trick.
I'd give them another month and then go for it, unless you've got one of the intel boards that has no problem ( in which case do it now) with the card.
Check out rage3D.com to find out the current state of affairs.

The Radeon 9700 kills the Geforce 4 Ti 4600 in pretty much everything except price. On 3DMark it scores roughly twice as high as the Ti 4600. Not only does it kill the Ti 4600 in nearly every benchmark, but it has better picture quality, and has much better performance while enhancing the quality. You can set it to 16x anisotropic filtering, 4x AA and get great framerates. If you can afford it, it is the thing to get.

Hi Furius92,

Ya, the 9700 is definitely the King of the Hill right now, but it's not a fair comparison. It's comparing a new generation card with a card from the last generation. The GF 5 should be in the same class as the 9700. I can't wait to see those two compared
