I now have two nvidia video cards that won't work with the drivers on nvidia's web sight. These drivers are supposed to work with all video cards with nvidia chips.I know there are other people having similar problems. When I install the driver and reboot the machine it will not start then reboots into safe mode.I've had this same problem in two different machines. The latest one was a new build and all that was in the machine was the video card, one stick of ram,and the only thing installed were the motherboard drivers. It was an AMD build with an AMD chipset, the other was an Intel p3 with an intel chipset. The same results with both cards in both machines.I think it must be the wrong drivers. The cards are Gforce 2's.What other drivers are there?Nvidia only lists the two that I tried.Any suggestions would be helpful.

Did you completely remove the old Detonators? Guru3d.com has a Detonator Destroyer utility, I think.

also, not all detonator drivers work for everyone. or at least not me. for instance the latest certified detonator drivers on nvidias site 30.82 do not work well for me. but the detonator 40 beta drivers (40.72) do. and as a safety, i'll can always trust 28.32.
on the left hand side of the drivers pages, there is a windows driver archive link where you can try older drivers. it may also be wise to check the manufacturer's site |

Hi shifty,
What mobos are you using? What Windows versions are running on these systems? How much Ram on each? Have you installed the mobo drivers and DX 8 on the AMD before loading the Det drivers? Might be a good idea to completely uninstall the NVidia drivers on each PC before trying older ones http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...threadid=18832 As poops said, 28.32 are considered to be very safe and compatible. hi shifty, yes the drivers can be much different. for instance 30.32, the new ones, do not give me a Geforce tab, so i cannot easily change opengl and and direct3d settings. they also do not allow all of the resolutions my card supports.
a smart idea also would be to check the mobo's manufacture's site for bios and driver updates that may address these issues. the fact it is happening to 2 completely different boards kind of rules that out though, but a good idea in any case |

Also, there are different drivers for Win9x and W2K/XP.
It's very easy to download the wrong ones if you're in a hurry. |

The pentium 3 mainboard is a Abit BE6 and the AMD is a Shuttle AI61.Both are running W98.I tried taking out all the Pci cards in the p3 but it had 3 sticks of ram in it.The AMD is a new build with nothing in it except the video card and the direct x version that cames with windows 98.I believe it's 7. The p3 had 8.1.All the video driver installs I've done so far have gone smoothly so I didn't expect any problems.I think the first thing to do is try the other drivers.I'll take a look at that thread first. Thanks

Hi shifty,
Win98 doesn't install DX. You have to do that after Windows is installed. You are better installing 8.1 on the AMD. It will be more compatible with the latest NVidia drivers. The usual sequence in a new build is: install Windows install the mobo drivers - especially the AGP driver install Direct X then install the video drivers HTH Last edited by mike breck; 10-22-2002 at 03:36 PM. |

If you have any current games, they will have DX 8 on them.
Jusy "Explore" the game CD and you will find a folder called DX. Go into the folder and click on "dxsetup" and you will be able to install off the CD. Alternatively, any good PC or PC Game Magazine you can buy off the shelf will have the current DX version in their Utilities or Library folder. HTH |

I believe that Win98 came with DX 5.x and 98SE came with 6.x

Any way to load it on a disk?I think the latest game I have is 7.0.I read an opinion on another thread that the direct x versions on some of these games don't work very well.

It too big for a floppy.
Like I said, any PC Games magazine will have DX 8.1. I know the UK version of PC Gamer has it. So I should imagine the US version will have. HTH |

Found a game with direct x 8.0 and installed it .Nvidia cards still won't work.I tried an older 8mb Matrox card and it worked fine.Could not install any of the three Nvidia cards I have.Go figure.I found the registry key"Nvidia Corporation" and deleted it.Did a search for the nv files but didn't find any.No luck. Thanks for your help.I'll welcome any other suggestions.
