Quake III Arena in Win2K Pro

Anyone else have trouble installing Quake III Arena under Windows 2000 Professional?

It keeps giving me an error message about being unable to copy/load two .url files and then the installer just quits.

I can play the game fromthe CD though: just put the CD in the drive and run quake3.exe in the Quake 3 folder. A little jerky, but it runs.

Help please.

Sorry about this, but it was the only way I could get the second error message on the post.

By the way, I have SP3 installed.
This is a copy of my original Q3 disc that I made as a backup. It installs and runs fine under Windows 98SE.

Do you have the latest patch for Q3? ID just released 1.32. Try that then let me know if you are still having problems. Get it here http://www.idsoftware.com/index.php?...true&version=5

JCB,

I'm so sory I took so long tp reply. Been somewhat busy.

Anyway, I cannot install Point Release 1.31 or 1.32, as I cannot even get the base Quake III to install.

Those error msgs that I posted pop up right after I select the target directory on my HDD.

BTW, I can copy the Quake3 folder from the CD to the HDD, and it works fine. I can play the game with the quake3.exe exec in the folder, but it will not update, says it canot find Quake III.

This isn't by chance a burned copy of Quake3 is it?

It's a backup copy that I took of my Q3 original. My drive was bad and I didn't want to have to buy a new copy of Q3 again. Problem is, I did not copy it as a CD to CD copy, but copied it to HDD and then back to CD so that I could add point release 1.31 to the disc.

Could that be the reason?
