Help wth Windows Media Player
Hi All,
I'm running WMP 6.4.07.1124 and would like to be able to play *.wmv format files. I poked around at MS's site and got the impression that this format should be supported in 6.4. But, I can't find how to update 6.4. I do Not want to run / install WMP 7.x. When I allow 6.4 access to the Internet, it tries to install 7.x, so I abort the process. Any ideas?? Thanks! TwoRails |

Hi wolfie,
I just tried the options thing. I went down the list carefully, but I didn't see any options for playing a .wmv format. I don't really want to update because: 1) I tried 7.x once, flat just didn't like it. I like the leanness of 6.4 2) My understanding is it takes about a whopping gig of drive space for all the bells and whistles that I don't want / need. While I have a total of 200 gigs, my 'C' Drive is only 6 gigs. 3) I can't really remember hearing / reading a good review about it. Even TechTV / the Screen Savers didn't like it, and I'm thusly influenced. 4) Can't uninstall it (or is that DirectX??) If I tried it again, could I dump it?? ~~ I am open for persuasion(s) to try it... ![]() TwoRails |

Ya, wolfie. I was at a site this morning that showed how to unlock a 2200+ but the .avi wasn't an .avi, it was a .wmv. Sure would like to watch it, but .....

Hey Tworails, I use the same version and have no problems watching wmv. Have you went to view/options/formats and made sure windows media audio/video file is checked? HTH

Well, here's the link to test out. I feel a little silly, as the site sez you need to install "Xvid" drivers to play it. I blew right past it the first time...... Dooh!!
Does anyone know about "Xvid" ?? Like are they compatible with 6.4? or is a higher version required? Does anyone have a link to a "normal" .wmv file so I can test watch it?? ![]() TwoRails |
