Soyo gave this advice, but it didn't do anything to solve the problem.
I cleared the BIOS and set it to optimized defauld. I also installed the VIA 4in1 drivers. When playing games, the screen either freezes or goes totally black and the monitor light blinks. This happens playing two games so far, pools of radiance ruins of myth drannor and unreal tournament. The screen has also froze when I have multiple Microsoft Internet Explorer windows open. Could it be a BIOS setting, power supply, or video card? PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!!! Soyo Dragon Plus! Can you check with another PSU? How many sticks of RAM do you have? If you have more than one try removing one and see if the problem goes away.

Your ATI Rage card is AGP 1.0 (3.3V) and the Soyo mobo is AGP 2.0 with a Universal AGP slot (3.3V or 1.5V).
So "in theory" the Rage card should work OK. However, I think you should try another video card from the Radeon line. Even if it doesn't solve the problem, at least it'll give you a good excuse to upgrade your video card. HTH |

Thanks for the reply. I have only one stick of memory and I would upgrade to a new video card, but my wife is already ticked that I have spent the money I have on this system. Thanks again.

SBanana, that's a good suggestion, however if the video card isn't seated correctly the system probably wouldn't even boot up completely.
Might as well try it though, could be the problem. |
