Unreal 2003 FPS command?
Anyone know the command or key to show how many FPS the game is running at? I am trying to optimize my graphics without comprimising gameplay.
Also, what is a good target number for my FPS? Thanks! |

type: "stat fps" (without hte quotes).
Really, anything that is playable is fine. Its better to just see how it feels when you play rather than determining performance by the fps. Also, UT2003's mouse smoothing is more grid like than in UT, so it makes the game feel more choppy than it actually is. With my machine, depending on the map and the amount of players/bots, I can get anywhere between 30-175 fps with highest detail settings and all details checked at 1280x1024. So really, determining what fps rating to shoot for is dependant on the power of your hardware and how much quality you are willing to sacrifice. I personally can't stand low quality graphics, but sometimes I have to sacrifice a little to keep the game enjoyable. But how smooth the game needs to be also depends on what you think you are comfortable with. Again, keep in mind that the current mouse movement in UT2003 is rahter choppy and 60 fps will feel more like 45 or so. Just try to move your mouse around a little bit and see how it moves like its on a grid. All games have this grid but some have a tighter grid than others. Its almost like the smoothing option is broken too, although they added mouse acceleration in the latest patch which might help. That must be configured in the UT2003.ini file however, there is no menu item in game for acceleration. If you are going to tweak away and still want a stable and pretty looking game do this: Upgrade your video drivers (if not your hardware). If you are using a geforce class card obtain RivaTuner or GeForce Tweaker to further tweak your cards settings. Those can be obtained at www.guru3d.com Open your UT2003.ini file and, assuming you are using the Direct3d API, scroll down to the Direct3d section and change "Triple Buffering" to "True". Also, change "Check for Overflow" to "True". If you are using a USB mouse, turn "ReduceMouseLag" to false. Change your desiered refresh rate to whatever the refresh rate is in the resolution you play with.Turn on v-sync to prevent tearing and keep the fps from fluctuating too much (fps fluctuation just makes the instances of low fps seem that much lower). Don't use 3dhardware sound (don't mess with safe mode either, as there is considerable lag in the sound), use Software 3d sound instead. You may find that turning off some datail options in the settings menu in the game doesn't have any effect on performance; many of those options were introduced for either VERY high end machines, or VERY low end machines. This is all I can think of at the moment with that game. Just don't worry about trying to get CTF-December to perform well with any quality at all. Nobody can do that, lol! Get the patch for the game! I myself will be building a new machine soon that will include the next Nvidia card. I will definitely post the performance in the game on this forum, when I do the build. Good luck, if I remember anything else that can be done to speed up your game, I will post it. Last edited by DilLy; 11-01-2002 at 01:02 PM. |
