Doom?

A couple of you guys suggested that I try DOOM. You said it was an older game. Well, a buddy of mine loaned me his copy of Doom to try out. It is for windows 95 and is called The Ultimate Doom by Gi Interactive Software. The game is a FPS but the graphics are really weak. I suppose that it gets better as it goes along, but is this the game you were talking about? Is there another FPS Doom game out there I should try- honestly, I may not try this one again.
Thanks Guys,
The quest for the perfect game continues

For an older game that will run on most systems, get a copy of Quake 1. Really good graphics and not cartoonish. Duke Nukem 3D is also very good. And although cartoonish in it's presentation the original Heretic was a great little game.

If you want to see how far Doom has progressed, download a copy of the Doom 3 alpha. It's amazing. I only get around 20 fps with my system. I hope they refine the code.

Quake 1 is a great game and still has a large "cult" following.

There are at least 4 - 5 versions of Doom. And serveral ports. Still one of my favorite game. Ya, if you're used to all the latest and greatest vid games, then the graphics are a little weak, but it's still a spooky game.

ryanatalie: where did you d/l Doom 3 alpha???

There's a few graphic mods out there for Doom, you may want to try out Open GL Doom.

I use mIRC. One of my friends got the alpha somehow, and he asked me if I wanted to try it out. It may be difficult to find a "link" to the fact that ID didn't want it released.

There were alpha leaks of the UT2003 game that contained major viruses.

Many peoples machines were infected.

I laughed.

IRC = Internet Relay Chat. Be careful, if you choose to play in the hacker and warez channels you better have a good firewall, antivirus, and antitrojan running.
