Problem with UT 2003
system specs fist off:
P4 2.4Ghz Plextor 48x Audigy2 ATI 9700 Pro 512Rambus 60Gig HDD Windows 2000 Pro ok those specs are more that good enough to play UT 2003. my problem is every time i go to run the game i can click insta action and then the computer freezes up, or it will reboot, or it will freeze with a black screen and leave a high pitch beeping sound, which in turn, results in me having to reboot. has anyone else had this problem? all of the latest drivers are installed and the latest patch for UT 2003for everything except for Win2K Pro service paks (they scare me...) if anyone needs more info let me know. |

You really should get those service packs for 2000. I hear the first and second one fixed some issues that affected gaming. Might as well get SP3 too.
I don't have a Radeon 9700, but I have heard of quite a few problems with that card, especially on UT2003. Not everyone has problems with them, but they are ATI specific. I'll see if I can't find more info on it. Last edited by DilLy; 11-05-2002 at 01:15 PM. |

Service packs are cumulative - you don't have to install them in order - the later ones replace the earlier ones, just install *one*.

Try turning of your firewall if you have one before starting the game. It had a problem with zonealarm. The computer would freeze every time, I tried to play over the internet.

I tried it and it was not a problem with the firewall and instant action.
So much for my two cents. Last edited by jackjones; 11-05-2002 at 04:15 PM. |

Thank you for your post DilLy
I think the problem was that I was runnig an older version of ZA. I have just updated ZA and it does not freeze anymore. Now I can also grant it access . Before the computer would simply freeze and you could not do anything but reboot. I tried to get back to windows to allow access but it was just not possible. Now all is in perfect working order. (Well shall we say as good as it gets) Best Wishes Jack |
