Radeon 9700 Vs Gainward GF4 ti4600
Hey i know the Radeon is the best Vboard on the market (so so they claim) I was just wondering what the difference in performance is w/these boards. Is it worth it to pay more for ATI?
Thank you in Advance |

Well... I'm sure you'll hear good and not-so-good about both... but I like the ATI since it's already capable of supporting DirectX 9, which isn't even out yet... so, for a short period at least, you can be ahead of the gaming curve... alas, either one is a great card

Here are some numbers:
http://www17.tomshardware.com/graphi...104/index.html Is it worth it? Well, DirectX 9 will be around, but games will take a while to adapt, and by then the card will be in the bargain bin. So, in that light, I think DX9 should not be a factor. But, that is opinion, mind you. I always try to stay a step or two behind. It is a well known marketting scheme to sell brand new chips at outrageous prices. Many think competition drives it down, but that is only partly true. They soak people because people will still buy it at that price. Again, opinion. If you got money, buy it. If you got time, wait for the coming X-mas sales. If neither, the GeForce 4x00 series will last at least 1.5 years, even for the higher tier gamer, I would wager. Again. . .opinion ;) Respectfully, Demosthenes |

I have the Gainward, and it's a great card! I don't have the 'Golden Sample' version, but I still OC'd it to 321/329, and scored almost 13,000 in 3DMark2001SE.

Well thanks for the replies everyone I really appreciate it. Well I think I'm going to wait a couple months and see if the price comes down a bit on the ATI. I'm in no big hurry, I just like to do my homework before I buy abunch of stuff for my next build
Thanks again-Jerad |

i think your second number is wrong ![]() or are you trying to talk about true speed. As if its a ati 9700? My Gainward Ti4200 Is overclocked to 320/615 I would get the Ti4200 since the 4600 runs at 300/650 . I dont even have ramsinks on my mem yet. So After I do I might be able to tople past 650.

I mean, the memory is clocked at 329MHz DDR(658MHz effectively). I'm sure I could get it way higher, but it was my very first OC'ing attempt, and I wanted to play it safe.

A graphic for your perusal......this is the EXPERTool utility included with my Gainward, which I used to overclock the card.....
