The end of the year is quickly approaching. I would like to invite all of you to cast your vote on this year's best PC game! Doesn't matter what type of game... doesn't even have to be the most popular, just what you think is the best game of this year.
After all votes are in, Padawan will be reviewing the winning game and bestowing it with the first annual PC Mechanic Game of the Year Award. There may even be an Editor's Choice award (picked by Padawan of course) if I can talk him into it... shouldn't be too hard to coax him to talk about PC games!

Cast those votes and feel free to tell why you voted for the game you did!

How long has it been since you've checked out the Maximum 3D page? It changes all the time! It's past time for you to get over there and see what Scott's been doing to the place!

Stuck between 2...

Either Diablo II or Deus Ex. Both are great games.

I'd say UT except I believe it came out last year, I'm still waiting for the best game this year, Maybe the new AOE: Conquereors will be the ticket.

I'd go with deus ex but now I finished it,(fairly quickly, & multiplayer on a lan would have been nice) so I am going to have to go with Baldurs Gate II.

This is a tough one. I am currently undecided on which game should be the game of the year. I am quite curious about what Halo and Tribes 2 will be like. I think it is a little early to make a definite descision. However, considering everything I have played so far this year, I would say that Deus Ex, and Diablo II are quite high on the list. I am suprised that no one mentioned it already, but The Sims is also a serious contender IMHO.

Yes, UT was a 1999 game. From first impressions of the demo, I might just have to say Soldier of Fortune. I think I'll post my final vote after I get the retail version this weekend.

Diablo II gets a big thumbs down from me, due to the total lack of multiplayer foresight by Blizzard. Battle.net is as slow as it was for Diablo 1 and Warcraft II four or five years ago.

I'll be casting my vote for Counter Strike 7.1 Beta. Half Life mods kick ass!

best game

The game I had the most fun with was Soldier of Fortune!
The graphics in Q3 & Elite Force where some of the best.
maybe i am morbid but SoF was a heck of alot of fun.
of course the people you are shooting are the bad guys

Damn, I agree. I just got Soldier of Fortune today, and this game rocks!

This is fully the bloodiest game I've played, imagine UT, but when you shoot someone in the leg, they hold their knee and scream like a woman! You can blow any body part off from what I've seen, great game.

Hmmm....... 5000 + members... 9 votes. Something doesn't compute.

Could we get a little more participation? There may be some type of reward involved for one lucky voter drawn at random.

I agree Tiretool. Since you are the forum mod, compile a list of votes and voters, and we'll have a random drawing at the end of the year for the people. I'll get together with every contact I have, and see if we can't have a couple of prizes. I'll pledge one prize guaranteed from Maximum3D for the drawing.

I'd be willing to buy a game at Wally World (Wal-Mart) just to spark some voting. I know we have more gamers here than what have shown.

I vote for Half Life: Team Fortress Classic. Got this game from my brother 3 years ago and I am still kicking ass against other punks when I play on the net.

3 years old..... hmmm.....

Let's try and stay within this year.

Ever tried the Half Life Mod called Counter Strike? the 7.1 beta version came out this year. You could vote for it.

Let me clarify something.

Since this "is" a Game of the Year award, we need to pick games from "this" year. This contest will go on through the end of the year and some time close to the end of the year we'll be drawing by random from everyone who voted for prizes.
:Note: You can only vote once. Voters who are discovered attempting to vote more than once (for example, registering with more than one nickname and voting several times) will be disqualified from the drawing).

OK, I'm ready to vote.

Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force. Ok, after you stop laughing because it is a Star Trek game and these games have been pretty much mediocre so far-- read a review on the game. It is based on the QIII engine-- looks great, good story line, loads of fun to play, cool weapons, and you get to frag Borg and blow up a Borg cube. The mulitplayer is pretty good too (although not in the same class as UT or one of the Halflife mods (but then what is). Main problem with the single player game is that it is too short (about as long as Opposing Force)and the monsters are a little stupid (they tend to stand still while being shot). This game also gets my vote because it is the only game I've bought this year -- too many good games from last year to still play.

I'm also going to buy "No one lives forever"-- if it is better, I'll try to claim I didn't know what I was doing when I voted the first time-- oh wait, I'm not a Democrat.

I split the bulk of my playing time between D2 and Shogun, but D2 gets my vote.

Thumbs up Deus Ex All the Way!

The best game I ever played. My vote goes for Deus Ex!!! This game makes you think your options through before blowing everything to pieces! I am tired of mindless run and shoot stuff, plus I am a big fan of the Syphon Filter games!

Now that it has reached version 1.0, my vote right now is for Counter Strike. I did like the explicit nature of SOF, but Counter Strike is just too much fun(sometimes frustrating ). If they could combine the two it would be even better.

Cool

MMy vote would go to a game called Flying Heroes. In my view it has been criminaly ignored, but it's a really novel idea and the graphics are as good as i've seen. It's deathmatch on a really crazy selection of flying machines that range from flying lizards to flying teapots and it's incredibly atmospheric. If you fancy deatmatch with a difference then get hold of the demo

I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but my vote goes for Final Fantasy VIII, Descent III, or Descent: Freespace 2.
