Question PC/Games Question

What would be the contributing factor to "choppy" running games?

Processor speed?
Amount of ram ?
Video card?

Or could it be a combination of all three?

I would say processor speed and ram would be the two biggest as far as being "choppy."

Thanks, Hot Rod.
You wouldn't have a Sims box laying around that gives the minimum PC requirements, would you?

AWD,

Thank you.

We've got 300mhz Cyrix
128mb ram
Onboard video--ATI Rage ll 8mb
I guess I'll check out the Directx version and DirectDraw.

We have plenty of HDD space, but the swap file I don't know about.

I believe a 300Mhz Cyrix runs at about the same speed as a Pentium 233. You may just be meeting the minimum requirement there. But if it meets the minimum, it shouldn't be causing it to be real choppy. Is it pretty bad?

The Sims is a fairly demanding game, I wouldn't play it on less then a PIII, in all honesty. You'd think that a game such as that would run on any system, but, in my experience, it is not so.

Hot Rod,
Yep, you're right. The Cyrix actually runs at 250mz, however the game stops and goes with 1/2 to 1 second delays. Reeaall choppy!

I have upgraded a pc like this to a AMD K6-2 500mz in the past. I believe it would help.

Thanks for helping,
Carl

I agree on upgrading the processor. I think the processor is your bottleneck.

Hot Rod and AWD,
Just found out that it is the Sims Expansion (Unleashed).
Requires 350mz processor.
Thank you for the help. Now I know what I have to do.

Kubie, the requeriments listed on the box are the minimum you need to install and play the game.

To actually *enjoy* the game you will always need more than dat.

NK,
Well, they're going to have to be happy with 500mz. I told them up front about games and the required pc power they require.
The next person thats says my little boy wants to play simple little games gets a $2500.00 gamer machine.
