New ATI problems

I'm trying to figure out why Battlefield 1942 runs so choppy on my machine. I have a 128 MB ATI Radeon 8500, 1.4 GHZ AMD T-Bird, 256 MB DDRAM;, and I can score around 7500 on 3D Mark.

It takes about 2 1/2 minutes to load a single player scenario, and my hard drive is 7200 RPM, ATA 133. Is this normal? I should be playing smooth as silk, but it's like my computer is under powered. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I should add that I don't have much running in the background, I'm running XP pro, and I'm clean for viri/spyware. And I'm using the latest drivers.

You said the latest drivers, the Catalyst 2.4 drivers just came out a day or two ago.... did you get them?

It's not your card...

The game has major stability problems and there are no patches as yet.

As you can see in this gamespot review it's a great game with serious problems.
