Quake II

I thought I would like to play my Quake II game again so I went out and bought a MS Sidewinder FF2. The I tried to install my old copy of Quake II. I couldn't begin to install because of a DirectX problem. It was telling me I needed ver 3 and I have ver 8.

This game worked fine on my old Win 98 system but I can't get it to install in Win XP home. Is there a patch or something I can get or am I hooped?

There is a patch for Q II, but I'm not sure if it'll help or not:
