diamond dinosaur
Hi yall!
I picked up a new Diamond Stealth 64 video card to go in a 486dx pc ( circa 1992-1994 ). There are 2 IC sockets (U14&U15) empty. Can any one tell me what, if anything, to put here and will it upgrade the card, and if so, how? I went to the support site and they said these were for future add ons and were not used. Can't seem to find any documentation on the cards configeration. Any information on the card and also driver would really be appreciated, even some links to guide me. Thanks Ah Heap!!!!!!!!

Thanks NK, I have been to that site, but probably didn't search it
as well as I should have. I think I,ve found the drivers but I,m still in the dark as to being able to add IC,s to those empty slots. Thanks again for your help! |

Hi sam moore
That back in the day when you could "expand" your own vid card by adding memory. Those empty sockets are for extra memory. TwoRails |

Hi sam moore
They probably don't make 'em anymore.... If I remember right, you could either go from a 1 MB to a 2MB card, or from a 2 MB to a 4 MB card. It wasnt' much at all.... I've got one of those buried deep in my spare parts boxes out in the storage shed. If your serious, it would take a while, but I could find it for you... Let me know. TwoRails |

Hey I think I have one too. If you are interested I will try to dig it out of my box. Buried in the bedroom. In fact I think I have two of them. If I remember correctly one has a lot of chips on it that you can remove and the other is pretty empty.

Just out of curiosity, which exact Stealth 64 is this? Is it ISA, VL, or PCI? What main chipset does it use? It's most likely a S3 chip of some type, is it the Vision 864 or something like that?

Well, I haven't found it yet... I'll post a pic when I do.
Hi glc: It's a PCI, and if I remember right, Diamond was using the S3 back then... TwoRails |

I,m probably wrong, cause I thought all the slots on the mb were ISA. It appears to be two black slots followed by a brown
slot. The black ones have (31&18 pins) spaced farther apart than the brown one which has (48 or 50) pins. The card uses the entire slots, both blacks, and the one brown. The board reads : Diamond Stealth 64 Dram T VLB REV B2 B The chip is: S3 TRIO 64 Eon2AA 86C764X The PC was given to me and I haven't been able to find out any thing about the mb. Can't see any info ,and there wasn't any fcc ID# on the back of the tower. I guess it,s obvious I'm a novice, so please bare with me. |

That's a VL bus card, a later Stealth 64 because of the Trio chipset. It's a 1mb board with sockets to add 1mb. It takes standard 70ns DRAM chips, but good luck finding any. In a 486 there's no real reason to even try to find them, a 1 meg card will work fine.

Thanks glc!
I've probably lost the perspective as to why I got this PC in the first place, to practice on without the fear of messing up the one our family uses. When I saw those empty IC's, .............. Thanks again TwoRails, Catfish, and glc. If ya find any #'s ok, but like glc said, it'll work fine for what I want to use it for. Thanks Fellows! |
