Can anyone recommend a good book/site on game design?

I work in graphic and product design and come from an art/design background.

The design and project management process for graphic design/print and product design is very well documented, even to the extent of 'biographies' of companies such as Ford, or Chesterfields. What would be the equivalent for software or game design and production.

I would be interested to know of any good books or sites on the conception/design/production of computer games prior to actual programming.

Thankyou, in advance.

Try http://commandchamber.net/ and http://www.massassi.net/ I think they may have some articles on conception and design. Check out their links too.
