Good vid card for LCD monitor?(not much of a gamer)

I'm going to get a 15" LCD and need to pick out a decenly priced card that will fulfill the potential my LCD monitor has but I don't need all the extras for gaming.
This system is mainly for net surfing/research(50%), business(35%), and some gaming, downloading vids, pics from digital camera etc(15%).
I'm reading that the best set-up would be a DIV (?) instead of VGA correct?

Any recommendations for $75US or less?

Thanks!

Smile Sapphire at newegg.

Scroll down the page till you get to your price range. Be careful not all the OEM 8500s and 9000s have DVI .
Any of them should do what you want without busting the budget.

Here's the link :http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...tby=14&order=1

Squirrel:

Yet another post that's unproductive.

CAN-build: The Matrox G550 is a great 2D card for the money and it has dual monitor support - one DVI/one VGA or two VGA.

I second glc's Matrox recommendation, they're the best for 2D and business/LCD work.

Can he do the rest of the things he wants with that Matrox or will it limit him to office work ?

If there's gaming involved, look at the Radeon 7500, the ATI cards have good 2D quality and it'll run games.

Okay Doc, that's fine.
But why a 7500 instead of a card that would let him play an occasional current game, say StarWars on-line, well?
Surely the newer ATI cards would have the 2D quality he needs, and the ability to handle any new apps for vids, pics from cameras, games, etc., that a 7500 won't.
They would fit his budget and a 7500 or a Matrox seems like a missed oppurtunity.

pam123,

I'm not understanding your point, he asked for a good budget card for under $75. For pure office work, the Matrox would be great, but for office work and some gaming, the Radeon 7500 would be better. I can't find an 8500 or 9700 for under $100, so there's no point in mentioning them.

The link is for the Sapphire video cards at newegg.
There are 4 9000 cards that fit his budget.
I'm sorry if I wasn't clear.

Ah, my mistake. Then, I agree, a 9000 would be even better. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Yeah - the 9000 Atlantis may be the answer. It's not a great gamer, but for other stuff I would expect it to be as good as any other ATI offering.

humm, my last post didn't show up.

Anyways, I was looking into the Sapphire 7500 and it looked good but what about card with the GeForce MX-440 chipset or any from that manufacturer? Any better/worse?

I wouldn't use a GF4 MX for the simple reason that ATI and Matrox both make a better 2D card, the 4 MX is just a wannabe gamer that's really a GF2.
