Practice. You will suck at first but just keep trying & you will get better. Don't cheat!! Cheating on multiplayer = lame. Don't take it too seriously it is just a game. Have fun.

Have fun. Don't take it seriously. If you like the game you're playing, then you'll gradually get better at it. Eventually, you will be able to pick up just about any other fps there is out there. Most of them play the same with only minor differences.

LMAO!! I read the darn thing wrong! lol. I thought it was something for FramesPerSecond and how to....oh nevermind..lol. Lord are you new to FPS (First Person Shooters...lol I'm an idiot)? Have you been playing CS long? Check out THIS site if your into CS. Take a minute and register, then you'll have access to the forums, advice & tactics, and as a member you can also sheduale a private lesson from one of our extremely talented players. Check it out! Its a great site and the ppl are awesome. As the others said, it will take time to find your groove. DO NOT cheat! It will hurt you more in the long run. Trust me I know. But most important, have fun and play fair! Games like CS are really really fun when you play w/the right ppl. PEACE!

I agree with lobsterclaw and Werewolfdaddy, I have seen too many people get frustrated that they are losing that any skill they did have went out the window. My FPS of choice is UT assualt mode, the other thing I would suggest is to try every tactic possible, vary your playing style, one of the best ways to beat other people is to anticipate there moves and by varying your style its makes it much harder for them. Some of the more particular strategies I would suggest are as follows
don't shoot at everything that moves -this can be important in assualt type maps as many times the enemy will not attack you if you are not shooting at them (this has worked far too many times and usually only against newbies), two situations come to mind I followed a defender from nearly the beginning of a map right up to the final objecctive he never turned around so did not know I was there untill it was too late, another time I simply walked past four defenders to the objective (this one is very rare). Unlimited spawn?, kill yourself- Sometimes its tactically to your advantage to kill yourself. Binding a suicide button sure speeds up the process. Take one for the team- Be a decoy, get the enemy to waste their time/ammo trying to get you while your teammates get the objective. Know your maps- Can't stress this one enough, if you don't know the map well it doesn't matter how good you are, you will lose. Pay attention- Know where your teammembers are, know when both attackers/defenders die so you can plan your next move. Communicate with your teammates before/during/after each round. Use teamsay! Observe- Sometimes observing a game can help you learn from the better players out there by going into observe mode. Either to learn to counter their moves or to emulate them to improve your gameplay. Use 3-d sound to your advantage- Sometimes you can here the enemy coming, even through walls. Feign Death- Nothing like lying down watching several defenders run past you to get to the front line while you merely strole right into there base. Similarly, shoot any/all suspicous corpses untill only gibs remain. Be courtious- When you enter a new game, check the teams and even them if needed, never uneven the teams. Don't complain too much in the game, you can rag on newcomers to even the teams, general rule last one in switches. Don't hog ammo shields or health, only take reasonable amounts. Even if FF is turned off, don't shoot your teammates, really annoying. Know the difference between spamming and defending a choke point. Don't exploit gamebugs, such as "locking" doors and teamswitch completion of final objective. Defend what needs to be defended, for example if you have an expert sniper on your team, don't try to share the sniper spot, put yourself in a spot where you are of maximum effectiveness. Have fun- If your not having fun why are you playing. Its only a game. You can do searches for game play tips to augment your skills but the most effective way to improve is to practice. This are only a few of the suggestions that I can think of and many may only apply to UT assualt. Last edited by Trent Steel; 11-28-2002 at 03:23 AM. |

learn the rythm of the weapons. Every weapon in every game has a distinctive rythm; learn these rythms in the games you play. You will be a better player, almost instantly. That way, you know how long you have before you can shoot again, and more importantly, you'll know when to expect your opponents next shot.

-Always reload after a fight and before entering a new area.
-When in doubt, empty your magazine. |

In objective games- sometimes it is better not to kill the enemy near the objective (i.e., gold or documents in RTCW) if it means the enemy will respawn near the spot where you are taking the objective (i.e., transmit station, truck, etc.).

Sort of off-topic, but I've always wanted to try an online game......Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, in this case. Does anyone think that it would be OK on dial-up? Thanks......

nothing is all that good on dialup and you will constant threats from the broadband users for creating lag, but you will enjoy yourself if you find a game that you don't lag on too bad

Keep your gun reloaded always.
Don't stop moving. Duck and jump when in close firefight. Don't be scared. It's only a game. |

Practice. Put the bots on Super Supreme God mode and practice. Find someone who's good and do some one-on-ones with them. It's all about the strafe, jump, and connection. If your connection isn't that great, learn to be the best sniper out there.
And map your keyboard so you're not in the dark fumbling for the right keys, make the movement natural to you. |

get an optical mouse. Do not use a ball mouse, you will lose. Ball mice are not as smooth in action as optical. Use a large area for your mouse; nothing kills a good run than having to pick up your mouse during a fire fight.

Tribes1 plays fine on dialup, as does tribes2. Cs dialup, on the otherhand, is not fun watching your m4 magazine empty into a guys chest and he kills you with two pistol shots to the arm. And he survives. That is due his ping being lower, it is over before you know it. The headshot deal is right on the money, too.
I am not too thrilled with cs when cheats are everywhere. I was at a anticheat server the other day and was backing up a guy. He was shooting thru a wall near a door at the terrs who where outside. I could not see them but he could. Gotta be a better way. |

If using an auto0matic weapon you should fire single shots or in bursts of 3 or 4 to increase accuracy, and in games like army ops and battlefield 1942 go prone as much as possible for accuracy.
