NTSC TV = 640x480
PAL TV = 768x576

Actually TV doesn't really use a resolution as we know, but the numbers I showed you are the PC equivalents to TV (also used by TV software when using a TV card).

That's one reason why I'm certain that a console will never supplant the PC for total gaming.

Can a PC hooked up to HDTV play in higher resolution than on a standard TV?
How about game consoles?

They've been talking HD for 15 years. Is it ever going to happen?

yes, they have HDTVs out at the moment, only trouble is the tv service is not hd so what you have is a really expensive tv with normal television. if you want pure hd you need two digital satellites, if im not mistaken. they are releasing high-definition service in Japan soon i think.
your monitor is technically of high-definition, and as alienware_dude said before, i will never convert to tv gaming not only because of easier controls but because computers are just better.

What about those LCD & Plasma TVs ? How are they compared to LCD and CRT monitors ? The Plasma TVs resolution looks great ...and big too.

Plasma TV looks great- but only if you have an HD signal- not too many stations are broadcasting in HD at this time- although this will change soon- local HD broadcasts are in UHF- so you need an outdoor UHF antenna- unless you live pretty close to the station.

I have a 50 inch HDTV- regular TV looks like crap on it- mostly because stations broadcast poor quality signal- garbage in- garbage out. (DVD's look great thought).
