Games and windows

I have Windows XP Pro, I noticed that some games I want don't list XP as system reqiurements. Can a win 95/98/me/2000 game work on XP?

Hi Krotos,

Most of the time, if it works in Windows 2000, it'll work in Windows XP. Just to be sure though you should check the game website where it probably lists more details.

The one nice thing about windows XP is it has compatability mode. I put an old Need For Speed game on my laptop, it didn't work at first, but then I put it on compatability mode for Win98 and it ran. To do so, you find the .exe file, right click, properties, and there is a "compatability" tab. There you'll see that you can run it for pretty much all the previous versions of windows. 95, 96, ME, and 2000. Also you can check out the games website to see if there are any patches needed for it to run w/windows XP. like stated above, most games that work for 2000 work for xp, or so w/my experiance. Only games I've had problems w/where older games that came out in the Win95 Win98 years.

I tried to use that compatibility mode to run Digger and the game didn't play well at all. Sluggish, then fast, then sluggish again! Arrgghh!!

Y'all know that make compatible utility has been included in windows since 95? ::nodnodnods:: Just was hidden in the windows folder. I found it while burrowing through the 95 resource kit and it was in 98 and ME as well... for some reason they decided to make it much bigger in XP. I always thought it was funny when it said "lie about windows version." Gives a whole new meaning to corrupt software...

Have you checked this thread? http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?threadid=49421

Also, why don't you download and install jDoom. It's Windows compatible and works with all versions of Doom, even the shareware releases.
