GeForce vs ATI

I just installed an nvidea chipset. Replacing the ATI card was the best upgrade I have ever made. I never realized what a good video card could do. The ATI card caused me nothing but problems since I installed it. Every recent game I installed would lock, and I never suspected new hardware to be a problem. A year of frustrating problems disappeared instantly. Never buy the Radeon junk again.

You may have just used one of the many dodgy drivers that ATI released.

They're meant to have cleaned all these problems up with their new generation the 9000 series.

I agree with you that nVidia are better, but ATI do make good cards.

I have only had one problem with the ATI cards and it was because of not properly removing the old drivers before installing the updated drivers. The newer Catalyst drivers have been great so far.

Let see -- I've installed well over three dozen ATI cards of different flavors for a variety of people for a variety of uses -- not one of those cards has ever had a problem.

Twborbely, I'm not making light of your year long problems with games -- but many times it just installing a new driver. When I install cards I make sure that I have a copy of the latest driver from ATI that is not a beta release (unless I've tested it). And like I said, I've never once had a problem.

it could be Twborbely got one of the rad7000/7200 cards.

I remember that those cheap cards demanded high quality components in a system: at that time i was running p3-s370 thru socket adaptor on a slot1 mobo with older Via chipset and 200W noname power supply.

Rad card seemed to dislike this setup completely, tho Asus GF2 - MX400 was rock solid even overclocked.

I got burned on Ati once - i don't trust that company ever since, no matter how good their products are right now.

Let's just say i'm happy for them if they make good stuff now -> more competition -> cheaper prices .

I had heard all the fuss about the drivers and it scared me from getting an ati card. But I took the risk on an 8500le 64mb because of a great deal on it and its the greatest card I've ever used. The performance is nothing great compared to the geforce 4 ti cards, but the picture quality is unbelievable compared to my geforce 4 mx. Also, I havent run into any driver issues yet. I'm actually curious what programs have been know to have issues with this card, since it's actually for my sister for christmas. I want to make sure everything is running smoothly before I give it to her.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce2 MX-400 AGP 64MB card on my system, which also has an AMD cpu with the VIA chipset, have not had any problems at all, great performence on games, and it's not overclocked at all. I would like to try the new ATI rad 128MB card, but the price is just way out of my league.
