Reduced System 3d Performance From New Hard Drive!

Hello Guys hope someone can help!

I have just installed a shiny new master hard drive in my system, 80gb DiamondMax plus 9 (UDMA133) and I am getting a lower 3dMark score than with my old 14gb ATA-66 drive. My old score was 9800ish and is now down to 7000ish! Obviously I was expecting a somewhat higher score!
POST messages say its running UDMA133 and there's no obvious problems!

Has anyone had this problem before or got any bright ideas?

I'd better give you my system specs so you know the background stuff.

MSI KT3 Ultra 2 (MS-6380e)
AMD Athlon XP 2000
256 DDR 2100 RAM
GeForce 4 Ti 4400 AGP x4
80gb DiamondMax plus 9 UDMA 133 on Ultra cable (Master)
Clean install of Windows ME

Are both hard drives 7200 RPM? What is there access time? Just because the drive supports UDMA 133 does not mean it is faster then UDMA 66. Sorry, that probably doesn't help, but it could just be that the newer drive is not as fast as the older drive.

No the old drive was 5600 I think, but in any case I wouldn't have thought I'd get a 20% drop in 3d system performance!

Thanks anyway Trent.

Do you have all the same drivers installed that you had on the other drive? Maybe, you just need to update your video drivers.

Yeah all drivers are the same as the old drive (latest 41.09) also direct x 8.1, I also tried original supplied drivers and 31.72. Doesn't seem to make any difference!

Have you gone into d3d settings and mucked about? 3dmark uses d3d. Set the mipmapping to best performance, and go to "performance and quality settings" and set the slider to aggressive. Bench then... My rig with 3082s did 8400, with 4109s 10274. Pretty nice jump. IQ stayed the same.
4072s may be faster.

Thanks for the suggestions fellas, DMA is enabled and when using my old drive I had all the Direct 3d options set to defaults so that can't be the difference between the two drives, I'll give it a try though.
As soon as I put my old drive back on Master I get a 3dMark of 9850 straight away!
I've Just about run out of things to try now, pass the sledgehammer!
