I have this continued problem related to my S3 savage 2000 / children's software. I have WIN 98SE installed. When we install or use some of the kid's software, most of them require adjustment of the color range, down to 256 colors. It usually adjusts back.
Many times however, the computer seems to get reset , going into safe mode, with grsphic adapter error. If I am lucky to reboot, I must reload the drivers, to regain control if it will let me. Is the graphic card a piece of dung, or do these programs do this to all graphic setups, and shoulgd I just get a new computer for them. Is win 98se part of the problem, is WIN XP any more stable. Plelase lend your smarts, Thanking you in advance. Havw a rippin' day! Fred |

Hi zaboo3,
Are you setting the colour depth of 256 thro Windows Display Properties? Do you restart the PC before using this colour depth - and then restart it again after switching back to your normal colour depth e.g. High Color (16 bit) or True Color (32 bit)? Changing the colour depth does not usually cause problems. Have you installed the most recent drivers for the graphics card? Last edited by mike breck; 12-09-2002 at 09:40 AM. |

The Savage is not exactly a piece of dung, but there never were decent drivers for it. Replacing it with an ATI or Nvidia based card would eliminate some headaches.

Hi,
Our system set on 32 bit always. Then after the game is loaded and played, reset back to 32 bit, then the system shut down. Failure comes after the next attempt to boot the system. There are no new available drivers that I can find. I will continue the hunt. Thanks , Fred |

There are some drivers here
http://www.reactorcritical.com/download.shtml Are they more recent than the drivers you have? I've also seen some modified drivers made by Savage enthusiasts doing the rounds. These were for Windows XP, but I wouldn't be suprised if they had updated the Win9x drivers as well. |
