Background: I am looking at building a new computer, and what some advise on what route I should take.
I want to put my vhs tapes on to dvd. 1) Should I buy a video card that takes input (so I can hookup my camcorder to pc or vhs to pc)? If so what card do you recommend? 2) Or Should I go with a less expensive vid card (with 128mb DDR) and then place a tv tuner card in the computer. I was told from a co-worker that this configuration would work to do vhs to dvd etc.. He also said that this mght be the way to go since the tv tuner is more of a dedicated card for input. (I want to say under $150 for the video card, if that is the best way to go). PLEASE GIVE ME SOME IDEAS, ON BEST WAY TO ACCOMPLISH VHS TO DVD. |

cheeseheadnate,
For the money, you can get a ATI All-In-Wonder 7500 video card to capture video. It is $129.95 at www.googlegear.com Carl |

i will check that out. It has a "in", so I can pump video from my camcorder/vcr into the computer right?
I see ATI has a few radeon cards. Do you know what the difference between these: All-In-Wonder Radeon 8500 All-In-Wonder Radeon 8500DV All-In-Wonder Radeon 8500VE\ Thanks, Cheeseheadnate |

You'll get pretty decent capture from the ATI cards, I use a Radeon VIVO and it works pretty well.
I'd recommend one of the 8 meg cache IDE Hard drives if you can't afford SCSI tho, you're looking at gigs on top of gigs for capturing a full 2 hour movie, and hard drive speed will make for far less headaches. |
