Similar discussion but with a twist

Well I will be the first one to admit it. I know in the past I said I have been anti-game consoles with my experience in the past (no need for details). But the fact remains at home I have an awesome TV and surround sound system and it would be superb to have a game counsel hooked up to it. But I'm hesitant to do so. Why? Well the PS2 has been around for awhile; now when it game out there was fantastic news to those using their previous system, that the old games will work on the new cousel. But will that happen again? What about the game cube? I hear it's popularity ranks with the PS2 box. Xbox, well we all know that's going down hill fast.

The thing of it is, that I want a game counsel that will be around for awhile. I don't want the samething happen to me again. I bought a Sega Saturn and shortly after they came out with Sega Dreamcast.

Should I wait; is there some new game counsel that is coming in the very near future? Or should I just get what's hot now? It's not like I don't have the money, I just don't want to throw it away.

I haven't heard of any new consoles on the horizon, and if I were you, I'd just spring for either and X-BOX or PS2. Which one is really a matter of preference. Drive to your local EB and take a look at the racks of PS2 and X-BOX games. Which one has the most appealing titles, both 'available now' and 'coming soon'?

PS2 cool; but Xbox? I hear they are losing money and very little if any games are being made for it compared to the other consoles.

But are they out yet? And are they any good? X-Box is a vey ****ty game system, proof that a badass game system is nothing without good software titles for it.

If I were buying a new console, I would go with the PS2. It is safest, in my opinion. Xbox would be next. Of course, which console has the games you want is most important.

There are plenty of good PS2 games out, not to mention the overwhelming library of PSX games available. And do you really want to play a PC game on a console, the controls are impossible games like UT are better off played with a mouse and keyboard not a bulky controller.

darkmessenger03 - easy on the language, please. You might want to review the forum FAQ.

I would stay with the PS2. The Gamecube doesnt really have enough games for older users, they are mostly geared toward younger children. The XBOX is going downhill and the only games that they have that are not on the PS2 will soon be ported to PC, (Halo). PS2s backward compatibility is what makes it the winner.

I'm not going to try to lean to one side or the other here, because personally, I think each system has something different to offer.
However, if I were to be buying a new system all over again, I would go for a Playstation 2. Not only would I be able to play PS1 games, but also PS2 ones. Lets not forget being able to watch dvds and being able to listen to music cds.
I would pick a system which would support games that I would enjoy playing (My sole purpose of buying a PS was for FF7 when it was released, my N64, for Zelda.) I would rather have a gaming system which fit my needs and satisfaction, and as we all know, "needs" are something that may come different to everyone.

Okay, what's the cheapest anybody fron the PS2 for? I found it 200bucks so far. Looking to see if I can get cheaper. Please post your amounts and the url you found it at. The cheapest is where I will buy it.

I think it's $200 everywhere, unless you get it used.
